2022 was a tale of two harvests. The first harvest ranged from August until about mid-September and was intense and fast paced. Our whites were mostly in before Labor Day, and we were prepared for an early harvest all around. Some of our reds were further along when the Labor Day heat spike happened, and that propelled us into what we thought would be a very frantic and mad dash to finish harvest. Little did we know Mother Nature had other plans. The light rain in mid-September basically created a gap and a sudden halt to harvest. The second harvest started here. The fruit that came in after had beautiful mild weather in early October and time to get to perfect ripeness. Fifty-one days elapsed between the white grape harvest and the last Cabernet Sauvignon on our Estate coming in. That is an unusually wide span for a harvest. The wines from the 2022 vintage are enchanting. They are deeply colored, silky, and graceful in texture, with exquisite fruit forward aromatics. It will be a fun vintage to blend with early red lots showing more ripeness - while some of the later fruit which came in at lower brix will add some freshness to the wines. Long live vintage 2022!
