In 2013 we released our first “Magnum only” Kesu Cabernet Sauvignon. Kesu, the Wappo or Onasati word for deer, honors the legendary stag that leaped across the massive rocks of the Palisades above us.
A magnum of wine is a relic that calls for tradition, rite, and celebration. The sheer weight of the bottle imposes a sense of importance. When did you open the last magnum of our Cabernet Sauvignon? Was it a 10th wedding anniversary? Or perhaps it was your 50th birthday? We believe these bottles are precious and can be savored at a time of one’s life that requires highlighting. We present you with the release of our 2021 Kesu, the only wine at Chimney Rock made only for magnums. A mere 120 cases of this wine were produced. Enjoy this age-worthy beauty today or many years to come.

The 2021 growing season started as a classic drought year, and what we thought would be an extremely early harvest. We had lower than average rainfall during the winter, and not a drop of rain from April through October. The arrival of more moderate weather in August and September, allowed us to wait for great flavor development. Although we had a later finish than we expected, the mid-October harvest end still qualifies as an early harvest. Our yields were lower, but the quality was incredible with lots of color, concentration, and beautiful aromatics.

Tasting Notes
This wine is aromatically vibrant with aromas of intense cherry, violets, forest floor with hints of vanilla and dried herbs. On the palate this wine shows structured tannins, worthy of long-term cellaring. This Cabernet is full-bodied with a lush, round mid-palate, and a long lively finish.
