The Connoisseur's Trilogy
Alcohol %
Three grapes. One lens on Napa Valley.
Some of the most interesting wines come from grapes that usually play supporting roles. This trilogy lets three of them speak for themselves: a rare white, a rebellious red, and a Stags Leap District Merlot. It’s a gift for the wine lover who already knows their Cabernet and wants to go further. It arrives in a 3-bottle gift box.
2025 Sauvignon Gris
A copper-colored grape and a natural variant of Sauvignon Blanc, and a true rarity in Napa Valley. Chimney Rock first planted it in Rutherford in 2002. It usually goes into Elevage Blanc, but the fruit is good enough to bottle on its own. Expect peach, citrus, and white floral notes, with bright acidity and a lush mid-palate.
2023 Stags Leap District Cabernet Franc
The rebel of the Bordeaux grapes. It doesn’t aim to please like Merlot, or dominate like Cabernet Sauvignon. Its strength is the complexity of its aromas: layers and subtle nuances. This 100% Cabernet Franc comes from a single block that produced extraordinary fruit in the cool 2023 vintage. Beautifully perfumed, with black cherry, violets, and a hint of tobacco leaf. Medium-bodied and rich, with soft tannins and a long finish. Aged 18 months in French oak, half of it new, and unfiltered. It will age 10 to 15 years, and only 513 cases were made.
2021 Stags Leap District Merlot
From a single old-vine block in the foothills of the Stags Leap District, just behind the winery. These vines produce a hallmark Stags Leap Merlot, with the mouth weight and density the district is known for. The nose shows dark plum, black olive, and clove, with a hint of roasted oak. The palate opens with dark plum, aniseed, and licorice, over black olive and baking spices, with a viscosity that’s unusual and inviting.
