The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines excellence as “the quality of being excellent.” The definition is slightly elusive, yet when we are faced with excellence, it is easily recognized. Excellence registers immediately when we stand in front of the Pantheon in Rome, listen to a Yoyo Ma performance of a Bach Cello Suite, or watch the US women’s soccer team reach victory. Similarly with wine the recognition of excellence is immediate. Close your eyes, savor the aromas, let the flavors envelope your palate. You will know it when you taste it.
The Greek word Arete (pronounced ah-reh-‘tay) has no true translation to English, but the closest understanding we have of the word is the idea of excellence in all things. The traditional assemblage of Arete is a blend from multiple blocks on the Estate dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a wine of power, grace and character that unapologetically says “I am Cabernet.” Join us in celebrating this example of excellence from the Chimney Rock Estate.
