Chimney Rock Alpine
Cabernet Sauvignon
Stags Leap District 2008

Alpine is the most Bordeaux-esque of our Cabernets, consistently the most distinct, and attracts the most fanatic Cabernet enthusiasts.

Tasting Notes

Solid structure as we expect from this hillside block but with an elegant tannin profile, this wine has a lots of weight and depth.

Vineyard Notes

Easily the highest vineyard on the estate, Alpine is also the most challenging area to cultivate with its block’s steep, terraced rows. These demanding growing conditions and the volcanic, well-drained soils only allow a miniscule amount of fruit per vine, resulting in small, concentrated berries. The extra effort is truly worth it, as this special vineyard invariably provides rich, luxurious wines that also possess subtle but clear aromatic hints of dried herbs.

Production Notes

The 2008 vintage brought us some early frost challenges but a beautiful warm growing season. Consequently the yields were low and the quality extraordinary. This was the warmest vintage of the decade second only to 2004. In contrast to the 2007 wines, there is a slightly more elegant structure and, though the wines have beautiful aromatics, this vintage carries with it more nuance and less flash.
