||Stags Leap District
The 2004 Reserve abounds with coffee, hazelnut, and cocoa aromas which envelop a dark brooking core of classic Stags Leap blackberry. Hints of vanilla and cinnamon overlay this rich bouquet. This wine has both power and elegance. At first, lush fruit followed by a dense mid-palate with silky, long & spicy finish. The mouthfeel of this wine is extremely dense – rich, yet round and silky. If you want to see what a hot growing season can do with Stags Leap District Fruit, you must try this wine.
Located along the northern edge of our estate, the Ganymede Vineyard, originally called the Reserve Cabernet and renamed in 2005, annually consistently offers the finest traits of both hillside and benchland fruit. This vineyard takes its name from the legendary mortal who, in Greek mythology, served as cup-bearer to the gods. In similar fashion, this vineyard annually satisfies even the most challenging palates, deftly walking the finest of lines between lush fruit, robust structure and remarkable aging potential.
Short and sweet summarizes the 2004 vintage. It was one fastest and earliest of the decade starting in August, two to three weeks earlier than normal. With a crush of excellent quality fruit and yields per acre that were normal to light, the vintage brought high quality wines in limited quantities.
