Easily the highest vineyard on the estate, it is also the most challenging area to cultivate, and the block’s steep, terraced rows and volcanic, well-drained soils only allow a miniscule amount of fruit per vine. However, the extra effort is truly worth it, as this special vineyard invariably provides rich, luxurious wines that also possess subtle but clear aromatic hints of dried herbs. A true signature reflection of its singular terroir, the Cabernet Sauvignons from the Alpine Vineyard are among the most limited and coveted of any wines at Chimney Rock.Production Notes
In a glorious vintage like 2009, this singular potential was fully realized. We were blessed with beautiful, temperate weather throughout the growing season, and the few late rains had little effect on our intensely flavored and elaborately ripe yet balanced fruit. Our Clone 7 Vineyard displays the vintage admirably, offering a muscular wine that, after over 18 months in French oak, is full of bright fruit flavors and firm yet silky tannins. This wine is a perfect anomaly, standing comfortably alongside the boldest Napa Cabs while still displaying the trademark elegant structure of the Stags Leap District.| Vintage | 2009 |
